The Graz University of Technology with its Institute for Paper, Pulp and Fibre Technology is the only academic institution in Austria to offer an academic degree (Dipl.-Ing.) in paper and pulp technology. Yearly some 6-10 graduates finish this course, which is a field of specialization in the chemical and process engineering study programme at Graz University of Technology.

In the three-semester course "Paper and Pulp Technology" undergraduates from other engineering disciplines planning to work in the pulp and paper industry are offered a comprehensive background in the key subjects. On completion they are awarded the academic degree "Master of Advanced Studies". The "Akademische Papier-Ingenieur Verein Graz" (Academic Paperengineering-Association at the Graz University of Technology) is an association of about 50 active paper engineering students and about 250 alumni members. The purpose of this association is to assist the students in their studies, to create and maintain contacts to the pulp, paper and supplier industry, to organize excursions and provide a forum for information exchange.
